A simple step-by-step photo tutorial with written instructions for how to crochet the join-as-you-go method, specifically with granny squares. I loved using this method in my Kit Cardigan pattern to avoid seaming!
Step 1:
In order to begin joining, you will need one complete granny square (as seen in pink). For this particular pattern a complete granny square is 3 rounds, which means you will begin joining each square after round 2, and during round 3. The brown granny square is ready to join to the pink square.

Step 2:
Chain 3, 2 double crochet stitches in the previous chain space. Chain 1, 3 double crochet stitches in the next chain space, chain 1, 3 double crochet stitches in the next corner chain space.

Step 3:
Slip stitch into the corner of the square you are joining to, then chain 1.

Step 4:
3 double crochet stitches in the corner chain space of your unfinished granny square (brown).

Step 5:
Slip stitch to the next chain space of the finished granny square (pink).

Step 6:
3 double crochet stitches in the next chain space of the unfinished square (brown).

Step 7:
Slip stitch in the next chain space of the finished square (pink), 3 double crochet stitches into the corner chain space of the unfinished square (brown).

Step 8:
Slip stitch into the corner chain space of the finished (pink) square, then place 3 double crochet stitches into the corner chain space of the unfinished (brown) square.

Step 9:
Continue crocheting around to the beginning of the unfinished granny square as per pattern, and ta-da! Your squares are joined!
